Tagged!!

To report 6 quirky things about myself from Hazel at
http://justadddots.blogspot.com/
1. I can't keep anything alive in my house except people. My husband has stopped buying me potted ANYthing, no matter how "easy." Silk all the way for me!!
2. Before I met my husband, I'd kissed around 35 guys (only one had been an actual boyfriend). But my husband had an "Our first kiss will be on our wedding day" rule. Talk about irony.
3. As a kindergartner in the south, my teacher reported to my mom that I wasn't able to pronounce the difference between "lion" and "line." I still have to correct myself sometimes.
4. I'm addicted to office supplies. It's genetic, passed on from my dad. Post-It notes, Sharpies of all colors, cute file folders, pretty paper, you name it. I can't walk down that aisle and not pick up something. We're getting a Staples within walking distance in the fall. That's where I'll be.
5. I'm currently a rep for two home-based businesses but have also been a consultant for three others. And I've hosted shows for yet three more plus two boutiques with thirteen vendors each!! I love the direct sales industry and buy from other direct sales consultants as much as possible.
6. I take my son on field trips to Target almost every week. He eats popcorn and I browse and shop. It's my little guilty pleasure.

Now let's see how quirky these bloggers are...
1. Stacy at http://musingsofmomgirl.blogspot.com
2. Katharine at http://callawaylife.blogspot.com
3. Lily Eden at http://lilyeden.wordpress.com

...OK, I'm having issues with adding links. HELP!!!
Then I'll pick the three others.

Bird is the word

Happy Hump Day! I'm "off" from "work" today so we slept in and I made myself some coffee and here I am.
So I'm a bird lover. One of my favorites is the Arizona state bird, the cactus wren.

My son is already a bird watcher and sees and hears them everywhere. When we eat outside, he loves to toss his leftovers for the birds.
And I'm LOVING this new bird trend!!! Some are funky, some whimsical but they're EVERYwhere and so fun! I love them all!! So I've had some ideas brewing in my head and since my craft junk is out, I thought I better make some birds.
These were the bigger ones (I added button eyes to the blue one from the previous post--duh!).

The blue and yellow one was definitely the prototype because I liked it so much, I wanted to make more. Then I remembered that I had a stash of two-sided, color-coordinated paper I hadn't used. The rest of the birds were brighter, cuter AND pretty from both sides!!
These two are smaller versions. My SIL came home and I showed her. She picked one up and said, "Fun!" then moved the wings and saw "fun" printed there and we laughed. I guess I picked the right word! She's taking one to fly around her cubicle at work.

These little guys were my next project. I made the template and played with it a little. These three are best buddies. My hubby said they look like they're sitting.

THEN he suggested moving the beak and eye to give them more of a "standing" appearance, just for funsies. So I did two of those (at the bottom). I find them all rather charming!!

What do you do with a bunch of cute little paper birds?? Here's one idea! :) I love tiny things, especially grass and flowers type stuff, so I cooked up this little beauty. It says "celebrate friends." See the button sun??

Then I wanted to experiment with these animal friends with the 3-D mouth for a baby gift tag. Does this look like a duck?? I wasn't sure what I was making but a duck is as close as I can guess!

I need the right colors--plus squiggly eyes, possibly--to really make a go of it. But it'll do!
I hope you have a creative day!!

Wordy Birdie

OK, I stole this concept from a catalog and made it my own. I'm not creative but I can copy stuff well.
I don't have any squiggly eyes on hand so they'll be added later, but...I think it's cute! I just used a heart pattern for the body and wings, traced a circle for the head and cut out a little triangle for the beak. Ooooh, the possibilities are endless! And I can write any kind of message inside! FUN!

on a roll

I got in the card-making groove on Friday and churned out all eight of these cards. I was happy to be crafting again--it felt good. And I love giving people something handmade, especially if it was handmade by ME! :)

Here's my two favorites. For a baby girl:

And a baby boy:

A few new embellishments and some stamping and I'll have something decent. I was being lazy with these but I'm still pleased with how they turned out. Too bad my dining room table still looks like Michael's threw up on it!! I should just make more stuff before I clean it up!
Hope your week is off to a great start!

Friday and I'm off

My hubby suggested last night, "Hey, take tomorrow off." I laughed. He was serious. He didn't want me cleaning like crazy, taking on big projects or running errands all over town. He wanted me to be...off! So I did. My Monkey and I slept in and had a leisurely breakfast amidst TV and Internet looky-loo, and I even enjoyed a cup of (organic) coffee (with cane sugar), which I haven't done is many days. We kind of snacked all day off and on and lazed around. Then while he was occupied with his trains and later, coloring, I made myself a blueberry smoothie and took some of my card-making supplies out of storage--and made a card!!! Most of the supplies are from my Christmas stocking from aforementioned husband. Isn't he the best?? Now I know what I need and plan to make a trip to Hobby Lobby for more sets of matching embellishments, papers and stickers.

It's for one of my oldest, dearest friend's birthday, which is June 1. She's turning the big 3-0, the last of most of my grade school friends. I miss her birthday fairly often because I get a week into the month and go, "Doh!!" So this time, I'm ahead of the game. I wanted to use those daisies and ran across this paper that I had considered, of all things, for my wedding invitations back in 2002!! I used some rub-on words for the first time and added some buttons--quite the hodge-podge! But it all kind of came together and I'm pleased with the results, as imperfect as they may be!

On the inside, I printed my message on some vellum I found and used dragonfly stickers. I know they don't really "match" the daisies, but...she likes dragonflies! So, there!

I made a lil' bookmark, too, to throw in with her card. One of my favorite quotes.
Aaaah, it felt good to be crafty again and since all my supplies are out, I plan to make more while Monkey naps!! woo-hoo!
ADDENDUM:
Here's the second card I made (while Monkey napped) for a special friend at church. I'm pleased with it. I definitely like the rub-on words!! The ribbon is recycled from a gift I received from a blog friend! :) The buttons are recycled, too, of course.

Here's the inside, using the vellum again. I like that stuff!! And attaching it with stickers means not worrying about the glue showing through.

I'll try to whip up another one before the beast awakes!!

Nesting instincts

Not mine, the birds. One Mama bird has been working hard on this nest right by our driveway. It's quite a work of art. I hope the nest stays safe and I hope once the baby birdies are gone, I can retrieve that nest!! Is that wrong??

Mercy

It's hard work growing a baby and I haven't much to blog about with my craft projects going up in flames and very little time aside from sleeping. I've been napping to avoid the early-evening crash and so far, it's working. I am more tired than usual but otherwise, feeling well. Food continues to be iffy, with a McDs coffee drink that just didn't hit the spot like I thought it would and a pink-tinted meatloaf about putting me over the edge tonight. The package even said it would look pink due to the juices from the tomatoes, but...it just looked raw. Oooooo. Yikes. Good thing the veggies and rice turned out fine.
What've I been doing, you ask? Besides taking care of my household, "working," and loving my, ah...spirited two-year-old?
Well, I did order this maternity tee from Etsy. It looks so comfy!! I hope it'll be fitted enough to wear now and last me throughout. I'm so glad the tent-like tops aren't "in" anymore!

Beyond that, I've been reading on-line about the safety of ultrasounds...checking out the obs on my hubby's insurance plan...setting up gift registries...adjusting our budget...catching up on e-mails...and I updated my Meez to be withOUT glasses (yeah, contacts!) and WITH a pregnant belly. Woo-hoo!!
Friday is my "day off" (from work, that is) and I have big plans. Yes, napping IS on my to-do list. So is:
1. talking to my student loan people
2. finishing the laundry
3. taking care of my laundry problem (including integrating my maternity clothes and putting away winter clothes)
4. going to Sam's Club for diapers and granola bars and, let's face it, something fun for myself
5. taking a load of baby gifts to our local crisis pregnancy center
6. sorting my cash for the month so I know what I have to spend on Etsy!! Heehee.
I need to call a few folks, too, and clear off my "hot spot" in the kitchen--the pile is growing!
So...I probably ought to hit the hay. It is after 1:00am. I wonder if my less tired days are due to somewhat less fetal development. Earlier in the week when I WAS tired, the baby's heart started beating!! That would take it out of ya! Maybe today is was more like tissues forming and...oh, who knows what??
I know I'm thinking TGIF. Not a lot going on this weekend but I definitely need to catch up with my hubby! Speaking of which, he's probably wondering where I am...
